they want us to create jobs, to expand the economy, and they want us to bring this deficit down. obviously, in the short term, we need to make sure we grow the economy, invest in the economy, but in the longer term, we want to make sure that we do bring down the deficit. if we don't bring down the deficit, knowing that future generations are at risk but we'll also have an economy that will be at risk. so on the one hand, an effort to make sure that average working people, you can pick any figure, you're correct on that. but average working people below $250,000 don't get any increase in their taxes so they'll have money to spend, money to invest in growing their economy. on the other hand, we thing tk t we also ought to have an eye on the longer term to make sure that we have a stream of revenue to help us bring this deficit under control. both objectives are critical. yes, you can point out that we can pick any other figure as well. >> president obama has delegated the treasury secretary, the omb director to work with both members and staff, republicans in the senate and the hou
